After recent studies, you should know that you should not share your woodwind instrument. Stuart Levy, a microbiologist, has teamed up with Bonnie Marshall. They have teamed up to tackle and test 20 instruments recently played. After their study they have figured out that clarinets and saxophones have held these harmful bacteria for many more days than other instruments. So you better not share your clarinet anymore. If you do, you better be ready for all the affects.

Wow, was there once life on Mars?
As a human species, all of us have thought of the same idea: "Is there life on other planets?" We also know that to have life there has to be water on that planet. On May 21st, 2011 Roger Phillips, a man from the Southwest Research Institute in Border, Colorado believe that they have found a new reservoir of dry ice on Mars! Phillips says that this is very intriuging since Mars tilts on his axis about every 100,000 years. Since this occurs the frozen carbon dioxide on the planet is released. The more carbon dioxide there is in the atmosphere means the more chance of liquid water on that planet. So dry ice is very rare on Mars now, which with this discovery is arising questions about Mars. Therefore this discovery is very rare nowadays.

Science Lab: Soaring Straws
In this science lab, my classmates and I were supposed to figure out what the relationship between Elastic Potential Energy (EPE) and Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) is. The EPE in our data was the amount of stretch that we put on the rubber band to launch the straws in the air. The EPE for my first test was five centimeters. The GPE I calculated for this amount of stretch was 16.63 milli-joules (MJ). As I did all the other tests, I observed that when I put more amount of stretch on the rubber band, the higher the GPE rose. Therefore, the relationship between the EPE and GPE is that the more EPE there is, the more GPE is calculated. If you look at my graph, it supports my conclusion because, since the GPE rose as the amount of stretch rose. In my data, there were many imperfections that occurred. For one, in my second test, the numbers were definitely higher than possible. This is because it was challenging to correctly launch the straws. To get rid of this problem, I suggest making this lab electronic since electronics are much easier to use and more accurate than our own hands, most of the time. If we made this lab electronic, it would be much easier to perform this lab. This is our science lab, Soaring Straws. Mrs. Rousseau it wouldn't let me make two paragraphs

Russia One Step Closer
The Russians may be the first country ever to land a probe on Mars! There are some technical difficulties such as, where are is the probe going to land? The are now one step closer to figuring out where to land though, thanks to the European Space Agency's Mars Express Spacecraft. This spacecraft showed two possible landings on Phobos, Mars' moon. This mission is supposed to air later this year, but now it could actually air a little earlier than expected. Russians are holding their breath to what might be their next greatest astronomic achievement in history. Russia as a whole think this will work. They might get the first pictures of the landscape of Mars' moon. People have been taking educated guesses about the landscape, but this might be the first actual picture of Phobos. http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/69101/title/Fresh_pics_of_Mars%E2%80%99_groovy_moon

2010 ties 2005 for warmest year!
Should we hand 2010 a trophy and say, " Way to go 2010! You are the warmest year!" The answer is no! This proves that the Earth is heating up. James Hansen, the director of the GISS, ( GISS is a group that records the temperature each year and compares.) says," If the warming trend continues, as if expected, if the greenhouse gases continue to increase, the 2010 record will not stand for long" This up in temperature is horrible for the planet and you. Because the Earth's temperature is increasing, the Artic sea ice is melting and so is the continent Antartica. The Artic sea ice acts as an insulation to the Earth's heat. Take away this insulation and the heat of the world will enter the atmosphere, creating more heat on all of the Earth's surface. In the north they may be experiencing a chilly spell, which they are, but this is due to the decline of Artic sea ice. In Antartica, if the whole continent completely melts, there will be enough water to flood the entire world. Canada's winter has already declined by 18 degrees farhenheit. The weather patterns have been crazy! Most scientists think it may be because of the decline of our insulation, the Artic Sea. We should not hand ourselves and 2010 a trophy at all! This picture depicted above is an example of parasitism. There is hair lice on my head, which is an example of parasitism because the hair lice is living on my head while damaging my scalp. The hair lice is harming me. The definiton of parasitism is two organisms interacting with each other while one benefits and the other is harmed from the interactions. So, having hair lice on my head is an example of parasitism.
