From Kinect to Leap Motion

Leap Motion, a company, has created a new computer that you can control with only your hands and fingers. Leap Motion, they say has created something that can sense minute motions of the hand down to the millimeter. This computer is said to be available to the public in six months to one year. When the CEO of Leap Motion was asked why he made this, he responded to add luxury to life and to advance technology even further.

In my opinion, this is simply amazing. This just blows my mind. I thought that the Microsoft kinect was the peak of technology, but it seems I am wrong. I cannot believe this at all.

DNA, RNA, ... And XNA?

As we all know, DNA is the genetic material in our bodies. In other words, DNA is the code which our computer(the brain) computes into information that we understand. DNA tells each cell what its task is and how to carry the task out. RNA uses a different protein, but is also the thinking center of our cells. XNA is like both genetic materials, but with one key difference, they use different proteins to tell the cell what to do.
In my own opinion, this is very cool. I have always wanted to be a chemical or bio-medical engineer and this greatly interests me. Another aspect that strikes me to be very amazing is that scientists can use this to cure diseases and such. All the have to do is input a genetic code and the cell will try to banish the cancer or disease from the body. Just simply stupefying.

New Plastic Bleeds Red When Scratched, Then Heals Itself Like Skin

This article is about self healing materials and their potential for the future. Basically the plastic at the damage point shows a little bit of red, like a human wound and then heals itself ; in the right light and heating. This technology was developed at the University of Southern Mississippi. It was presented by a man named Marek W. Urban. This is very new technology as stated in the article. Urban designed and built this to make humans not have to risk their lives in any situation to fix something. This can identify and fix any weak point, in the right light.
In my opinion this is amazing. I cannot believe that someone was able to build this. This will help us in long run I believe and hopefully, will never fail us. This is one amazing piece of technology. To sum this up, I believe is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen and heard of.

Every time we look outside or open our eyes chemical and physical changes are all around us. Four labs our class performed showed this to us in many different ways. To the right is the process names for physical changes. When our class melted our birthday candle it underwent a physical and chemical change. The physical change was when the candle melted from a solid to a liquid . As you can see on the chart to your right it did soon become a liquid. The chemical change occurred when the candle burned. Basically the chemical build up was changed and that is what a chemical change is. In our next lab my group mixed vinegar and baking soda together to form carbon a non-flammable gas. This gas extinguished the fire. This information can help us in the future because know we know that carbon can be used to put out flames. If you have a kitchen fire and know water is available you can just mix to two ingredients and smother the oxygen around the flames. Our next lab was roasting marshmallows and what we did was put a Bunsen Burner underneath our marshmallow and set them ablaze. We found out that the marshmallow melts while over a fire. The fire changed the chemical make up of the marshmallow and made it very gooey. Our final lab was heating sugar in a beaker. When the sugar heated it turned into brownish yellowish liquid. When we kept heating it the liquid soon evaporated leaving us with black powdery stuff. After inspecting the black stuff we learned that it was carbon left in the beaker. This can help us in the future because understanding chemical and physical changes will help our daily lives. For example, if we do not want our car to rust we cannot let the car be exposed to water and oxygen.

Procedure to Seperate Mixture

1.) First use your hand to pick the toothpicks out of the water. The toothpicks float so this will be an easy step
2.) Use the spoon to scoop the kidney beans out of the water. Put the kidney beans in your flask
3.) After you do that, put the magnet into the cup. The iron fillings will stick to the magnet. Just keep the fillings on them.
4.) At this time, pick the bug out of your mixture. (The bug is plastic.)
5.) Put the paper in the funnel. Underneath the funnel should be the beaker. Make sure the paper is cone shaped and pour the water into it. The sand will be free of the water and will stay there. Keep the sand on the filter paper.
6.) Put the beaker on the hot plate and turn the hot plate on.
7.) As soon as the water evaporates you will be left with salt.(Seven items found!)
8.) Make sure to clean up so your teacher does not become mad.

Response to frog dissection lab

Wow! When I walked into my science class and learned about our digestive system, I thought that because we are the most complex system no one has the same intricate system. Little did I know that we were about digest two bodies that similar body parts to us. The frog as seen to the right has all the major parts as the human, seen to the right of the frog. The disegtion of anything starts with the espohagus. Both bodies have this. The most important part of the digestion system is the small intestine and stomach. The frog shares this with the human as seen to the right. I was shocked to find this out because the frog is a primitive system. Even as though that may be, the frogs share many organs with us. Sure there are some differences with both systems, but all in all the two bodies are very similar. This absolutely blew my mind. When my group and I started to create the first incision I was surpised to find out how easy it is to cut their skin. As we continued to cut and explore our specimen I became more relaxed and soon I did not care when frog juice squirted on my hand. When we took out the stomach I was very happy to see that their was a piece of food in the stomach. Unfourtanetly, our frog had waste products still lodged in the large intestine. That was disgusting. But all in all, I found this lab to be most informative. I have learned that we are not so different to many organisms. Although their bodies may be primitive, they are like ours.
